FTAI buys 27 Boeing 737-700 aircraft from WestJet

FTAI Aviation has acquired 27 Boeing 737-700 aircraft from WestJet in one of its largest aircraft transactions to date. The deal is split between 17 on-lease jets placed into FTAI’s 2026 Strategic Capital vehicle in a sale-leaseback structure, and 10 off-lease aircraft acquired for the company’s Aerospace Products business.

The transaction gives FTAI additional aircraft tied to its leasing and aftermarket activities while WestJet begins retiring its 737-700 fleet. The off-lease aircraft will expand FTAI’s stock of CFM56-7B engines and modules for maintenance, repair and exchange customers. No financial terms were disclosed.

For WestJet, the arrangement aligns with a planned narrowbody fleet renewal as the carrier phases out its older 737-700s. For FTAI, the mix of leased and off-lease assets supports both recurring lease income and parts supply for its aerospace services platform.
