An Airbus A320 operated by FlyArystan caught fire during routine maintenance at Almaty International Airport in Kazakhstan on 28 August, briefly disrupting work on the aircraft before airport emergency services extinguished the blaze. The plane was taken out of service pending damage assessment and repairs, while one Air Astana Group employee was injured and later discharged after medical treatment.
The fire broke out while the aircraft was parked for scheduled maintenance, with no passengers or crew on board. Airport responders brought the flames under control quickly, limiting the incident to a localised fire rather than a wider emergency on the ramp. FlyArystan and Almaty International Airport are examining the incident jointly.
Air Astana Group has not publicly confirmed the aircraft’s registration in its initial statement. Secondary reporting has linked the jet to registration EI-KBN, but that detail remains unverified by the airline. No cause or damage estimate has been released, and the aircraft will stay grounded until inspections and repairs are complete.
