Embraer is nearing certification of its E2TS automatic takeoff system for the E2 jet family, with Brazil’s ANAC expecting approval in September or October. The move would make the Embraer Enhanced Take-Off System the first certified automatic takeoff system for a commercial aircraft, pending final regulatory sign-off.
ANAC president Tiago Chagas Faierstein said the regulator is in the final stage of the process and is focused on safety review before approval. The technology is being developed for the E190-E2 and E195-E2, and ANAC is already engaging counterparts in the United States and Europe so the system can also be recognised in other markets.
The system is designed to automate the takeoff phase, one of the most critical and fuel-intensive parts of flight. If the Brazilian certification is followed by international validation, the feature could become a differentiator for Embraer’s E2 programme in global markets and set a precedent for automated takeoff functions on commercial aircraft.
