Embraer and Mahindra Group have identified Nagpur in Maharashtra as the potential site for a final assembly line for the C-390 Millennium in India, subject to the aircraft winning the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft programme and an order being placed. The planned facility would support local assembly and industrialisation if the project clears the government selection process.
The two companies are working with the Maharashtra government on the associated infrastructure and preparatory steps. The proposed plant is expected to cover aircraft assembly, systems integration, manufacturing engineering and development of a local supply chain, with later opportunities in maintenance, training and lifecycle support if the programme proceeds.
The location choice moves the partnership beyond broad industrial planning and into a specific site proposal for India’s defence aviation sector. Embraer and Mahindra first set out their cooperation in a strategic agreement in October 2025, building on an earlier memorandum of understanding in February 2024 as they positioned the C-390 for the IAF requirement.
