Electra has flown its EL2 Ultra Short hybrid-electric demonstrator in a series of route tests aimed at linking small regional airfields with Philadelphia International Airport. The flights, run through the FAA eVTOL Integration Pilot Program with support from the Pennsylvania and New Jersey transport departments, followed a chain from Manassas, Virginia, via regional stops including Millville Executive Airport, Atlantic City Bader Field and Northeast Philadelphia Airport.
The trials were designed to examine whether the aircraft can operate as a feeder between underused airports and a major hub without relying on conventional runway-intensive airport operations. Electra has positioned the EL2 as a demonstrator for its planned nine-seat EL9 Ultra Short, part of a wider direct-aviation concept centred on access from smaller sites.
The programme forms part of broader advanced air mobility route testing in the US, with parallel Electra activity under way in Florida, New York and New Jersey, and Louisiana. The current flights remain demonstration work rather than a commercial launch, certification decision or firm service-entry schedule.
