A twin-engine Cessna 441 operated by Anchorage-based Security Aviation crashed near Cape Newenham in western Alaska on Thursday, killing all eight people on board. The charter flight had departed from Anchorage and was bound for the remote radar site and Air Force airstrip, about 450 miles west of the city. Authorities found no survivors after the aircraft went down around 12:15 p.m. local time.
The victims comprised two pilots and six passengers, while their identities remained withheld pending notification of next of kin. Alaskan Command confirmed the crash, and the National Transportation Safety Board sent investigators to the site with Federal Aviation Administration involvement. The cause has not been determined. The accident unfolded in a sparsely populated area used for military-linked operations, where weather, terrain and distance can complicate search and recovery work.
