Dan Air seeks creditor protection while maintaining scheduled flights

Romanian airline Dan Air has applied to the Ilfov Tribunal to open insolvency proceedings with the aim of reorganising the business, rather than liquidating it. The filing is intended to protect its scheduled international operations from creditor enforcement and potential supplier disruptions. Dan Air operates services from Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport and Bacău George Enescu Airport, and says all published flights and tickets already purchased remain valid.

The application followed pressure from a limited number of service providers seeking full payment of outstanding debts before continuing their cooperation. Court-supervised reorganisation would allow the airline to restructure its obligations while protecting flight continuity and other essential services. Dan Air has also indicated that it has no bank loans and continues to receive support from lessor Aviator Capital and most service providers.

Romanian media have reported total liabilities of more than 126 million lei, although the detailed creditor breakdown and restructuring plan were not available. The filing does not constitute a bankruptcy declaration, and the court had not yet ruled on whether to open proceedings or set a hearing date. Operations therefore remain unchanged for now, subject to the court’s decision and the continued availability of supplier services.
