Copenhagen Airport is facing prolonged security queues after Denmark’s Civil Aviation and Railway Authority required temporary additional screening measures at the Kastrup hub. Waiting times reached at least 45 minutes in Terminals 1 and 2 on Thursday evening and remained above 30 minutes on Friday, with around 200 Norwegian Air Shuttle passengers reportedly missing their flights.
The measures followed routine regulatory oversight that identified conditions requiring supplementary security procedures. Trafikstyrelsen has not disclosed the specific issue, while the airport has deployed additional staff to support the screening operation.
The checks apply to airport security rather than passport or border control. They include more extensive manual inspection of hand baggage and, in some cases, repeat screening, reducing throughput during a busy travel period. Queues on Friday morning reportedly extended towards the airport’s metro station.
The additional procedures were expected to continue at least through the weekend. Copenhagen Airport advised passengers to arrive two hours before European departures and three hours before flights outside Europe. The airport reportedly hoped to resolve the issue early the following week, but no firm timetable had been given.
