A Cessna 150 collided with a Pennsylvania State Police Bell 407 helicopter near Carlisle Airport in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday evening, killing the fixed-wing aircraft’s pilot and injuring two troopers aboard the helicopter. The helicopter was on a routine training flight when the aircraft came down near the uncontrolled airport, which has no on-site tower.
State police personnel on the helicopter survived and were expected to recover. Governor Josh Shapiro was briefed on the accident and headed to the scene as emergency crews responded. The Federal Aviation Administration identified the National Transportation Safety Board as the lead investigator, with FAA support. The pilot of the Cessna had not been publicly identified in the initial reports.
