Cathay Cargo growth continues as technology demand stays strong

Cathay Cargo carried about 149,000 tonnes of freight in July 2026, up 6% year on year, as the Cathay Group reported resilient demand across its network. Tonnage for the first seven months of the year rose 8% from the same period in 2025, with stronger volumes from Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia.

Technology cargo remained a key driver, with Cathay Expert benefiting from robust semiconductor flows within Asia. Cathay Dangerous Goods also gained from higher lithium battery shipments from Northeast Asia and the Greater Bay Area. Demand for technology freight is expected to stay firm, although the summer holiday period may soften volumes on some routes.

To meet that demand, Cathay plans to add additional freighter capacity to the Americas from August 2026 and increase Air Hong Kong freighter capacity on selected regional routes later in the year.
