Canada advances talks with Saab on GlobalEye aircraft

Canada has moved into detailed negotiations with Saab over a possible acquisition of six GlobalEye airborne early warning and control aircraft for the Royal Canadian Air Force. The non-binding term-sheet agreement sets the framework for talks on a Canadian configuration, associated systems, training and support, but does not yet amount to a contract or procurement commitment.

The Canadian Defence Investment Agency and Saab will now work through capability development, industrial participation, schedule and programme execution. Saab was identified as Canada’s preferred supplier in May, and the new term sheet advances that process into the next stage of procurement discussions.

GlobalEye would give the RCAF a long-range surveillance and command-and-control capability able to detect and track aircraft, missiles and drones, supporting Arctic and broader air-defence requirements. No contract value or delivery timeline has been disclosed.
