British Airways to raise Silver and Gold status thresholds

British Airways is set to increase the tier-point requirements for Silver and Gold membership in The British Airways Club from 1 April 2027. Silver status will require 8,000 points, up from 7,500, while Gold will rise to 21,000 from 20,000. Bronze will remain at 3,500 points, with the changes applying to the 2027–28 membership year.

The Club’s collection year runs from 1 April to 31 March. The alternative flight-based route is expected to remain unchanged at 25 eligible flights for Bronze and 50 for Silver; no equivalent Gold flight threshold is listed. The higher points requirements therefore primarily affect members qualifying through spend and travel activity rather than flight counts.

British Airways is also increasing the annual tier-point limit on its Premium Plus British Airways American Express card from 2,500 to 3,000 points from April 2027. At the same time, bonus tier points for premium-cabin flights will be reduced. For travel from 1 April 2027, long-haul Business Class bonus points will fall from 500 to 200 and First Class from 650 to 300. Bookings made by 24 November 2026 will retain the existing rates, while bookings from 25 November will receive the revised rates.

The new status thresholds appeared briefly on British Airways’ website before being removed and subsequently reappearing. No formal explanation for the changes had been provided at the time of reporting.
