Azul will introduce seasonal commercial passenger flights from São Paulo’s Campo de Marte Airport, with its regional subsidiary Azul Conecta using nine-seat Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft on services to Angra dos Reis and Jacarepaguá in Rio de Janeiro. Operations will begin on 27 December and run daily through 3 January, giving the airport its first scheduled passenger services.
The route will operate again from 6 to 10 February during Brazil’s Carnival period. During the initial holiday schedule, the aircraft is due to depart Campo de Marte at 09:00, reach Angra dos Reis at 10:25, continue to Jacarepaguá at 11:00 and arrive at 11:40. The return service will leave Jacarepaguá at 12:45 and reach Campo de Marte at 15:30 via Angra dos Reis.
Located in northern São Paulo about four kilometres from the city centre, Campo de Marte has traditionally handled business aviation and helicopter traffic. Its introduction to commercial passenger operations will give the greater São Paulo area a fourth airport with scheduled services, alongside Guarulhos, Congonhas and Viracopos, and a second within the city itself after Congonhas.
The flights are planned as temporary seasonal services rather than a year-round route. Azul Conecta is also scheduling related seasonal links involving Angra dos Reis, Jacarepaguá and Belo Horizonte’s Confins Airport.
