Avolon agrees sale-and-leaseback deal with Akasa Air for up to seven Boeing 737-8200s

Avolon has agreed a sale-and-leaseback transaction with Akasa Air for up to seven Boeing 737-8200 aircraft, extending its financing role in one of India’s fastest-growing carriers. The deal, announced from Dublin, supports Akasa’s fleet growth and network development as the airline expands in the domestic market.

The transaction is the third between the two companies, indicating a broader leasing relationship as Akasa continues to build capacity with the 737-8200, the highest-capacity version of the 737-8 MAX family. Avolon positions the aircraft as a fit for carriers seeking lower fuel burn and reduced emissions compared with earlier-generation narrowbodies.

Priya Mehra, of Akasa Air, linked the aircraft to the airline’s growth trajectory and confidence in the Indian aviation market. The final number of aircraft may be below seven, and commercial terms were not disclosed.
