Atlantic Airways orders two additional Airbus A320neo aircraft

Atlantic Airways has placed a firm order for two additional Airbus A320neo aircraft as the national airline of the Faroe Islands advances its plan to operate an all-A320neo fleet. The aircraft will support fleet renewal, reduce operational complexity and streamline maintenance by increasing commonality across the carrier’s single-aisle fleet.

Atlantic Airways currently operates four A320-family aircraft: two A320ceos and two A320neos. The new order will bring the number of A320neos on order to four, according to contemporaneous aviation reporting, although Airbus has not disclosed delivery dates.

The carrier’s chairman, Niels Mortensen, described the purchase as an investment in continuous fleet renewal and more efficient operations. The airline’s longer-term objective is to replace its older-generation aircraft with an exclusively A320neo fleet.

Airbus executive vice-president for commercial aircraft sales Benoît de Saint-Exupéry linked the order to Atlantic Airways’ role in maintaining regional connectivity for Faroese communities. Airbus and the airline did not disclose the contract value, engine selection, financing arrangements or which existing aircraft will be retired.
