Animawings files for insolvency while seeking to keep flying

Romanian carrier AnimaWings has filed for insolvency protection at the Bucharest Tribunal after repeated technical problems forced it to withdraw its Airbus A220-300 fleet from service. The airline plans to keep operating during the restructuring process, but its schedule is expected to shrink sharply as it relies mainly on two Airbus A320s.

The filing was registered on 30 September under case number 40903/3/2026, with the court yet to set a hearing date. AnimaWings has framed the move as a court-supervised step to protect the airline, stabilise operations and reorganise its finances, while maintaining flights where possible.

The operational disruption follows a gradual grounding of six A220-300 aircraft starting on 29 September, after technical issues continued to affect the type. With only the two A320s available, some flights may be rebooked, postponed or cancelled in the coming days. Passengers affected by schedule changes will be offered rebooking or refunds where applicable.
