American Airlines receives first E175 with RECARO R2 seats

Embraer has delivered American Airlines’ first E175 equipped with new-generation RECARO R2 passenger seats, introducing a revised cabin standard for the carrier’s American Eagle regional fleet. The aircraft was delivered in São José dos Campos, Brazil, and is expected to enter passenger service in autumn 2026. American is the first US airline to introduce RECARO seats on the E175.

The delivery forms part of American’s wider cabin-modernisation programme for its regional fleet, which includes E170, E175, CRJ700 and CRJ900 aircraft. The programme is intended to improve comfort on regional flights and provide greater consistency between American Eagle aircraft and the airline’s mainline passenger experience.

The R2 seat has a slim backrest designed to increase personal and knee space, along with a six-way adjustable headrest and a tablet or personal-device holder. American’s configuration uses customised upholstery matching the carrier’s updated interior finishes.

Other elements of the regional cabin programme include seat power and high-speed Wi-Fi. It has not been confirmed whether E175 aircraft already in service will receive the RECARO seats, nor how many aircraft will be fitted with them.
