Akasa Air has agreed a sale-and-leaseback deal with Avolon for up to seven Boeing 737-8200 aircraft, extending its fleet of high-density Boeing 737 MAX jets. The agreement, unveiled on 14 August, supports the Indian carrier’s fleet growth and network expansion and is the third transaction between the two companies.
The 737-8200 is the highest-capacity version of the 737-8 MAX and is intended to deliver better operating economics, lower fuel burn and reduced emissions than older-generation aircraft. The aircraft will strengthen Akasa’s single-type narrowbody strategy, which centres on the Boeing 737 MAX family.
Avolon, based in Dublin, did not disclose financial terms or a delivery schedule. Akasa already operates an all-Boeing 737 MAX fleet and has been expanding rapidly in the Indian market, with the latest deal increasing the share of denser 737-8200s in its fleet.
