Airbus has placed the H160 into its first European offshore energy missions with NHV Group, marking the type’s entry into commercial work in the North Sea sector. The first aircraft, leased from GD Helicopter Finance, has begun crew-change operations from Den Helder in the Netherlands for oil and gas and offshore wind activity across Northern Europe.
The deployment uses two leased H160s and moves the programme beyond order books and certification milestones into live revenue service. For operators, the signal is straightforward: Airbus is positioning the H160 as a lower-risk replacement option for offshore fleets that need range, dispatch reliability and mission flexibility on mixed energy contracts.
The next test is utilisation. If the aircraft holds performance in demanding offshore cycles, the H160 will have a stronger case in future fleet renewal rounds.
