airBaltic prepares to cut up to 700 jobs in restructuring

airBaltic is preparing to cut about 500 to 700 jobs across its bases in Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn as part of a wider restructuring tied to a new business plan. The Latvian carrier is also shrinking its Airbus A220-300 fleet from 54 aircraft to 36 by the end of 2026, while keeping its current flight schedule unchanged.

The planned reduction would affect roughly one-fifth of the airline’s workforce, which stands at about 3,000 employees. The figure remains an estimate, and no final individual dismissal decisions have been made. Management is consulting unions on the changes, including possible reduced-workload arrangements for pilots and cabin crew, with a new organisational structure due by mid-October.

The restructuring reflects a smaller future operation centred on tighter cost control and a more focused network. Publicly available reports have not broken down how many roles may disappear at each base or in each department, leaving the scale of the impact at Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn still unclear.
