airBaltic plans up to 700 job cuts as it reshapes business

airBaltic is preparing workforce changes that could affect 500 to 700 jobs across its bases in Riga, Vilnius and Tallinn as the Baltic carrier advances a broader restructuring plan. The airline says the figure is an estimate based on current planning assumptions and that the planned changes will not alter its current flight schedule.

airBaltic is consulting trade unions on reduced-workload arrangements for pilots and cabin crew, while new organisational structures for the rest of the business are expected to be defined by mid-October. The carrier employs about 3,000 people across the Baltic states, meaning the cuts could affect roughly a fifth of its workforce.

The planned reductions form part of a wider turnaround effort as airBaltic works through Chapter 11 restructuring in the United States. The airline is seeking to lower costs, reduce debt and resize both capacity and fleet as it adapts its business plan. No final redundancy decisions have been made, and the eventual scale of the cuts may change as consultations continue.
