airBaltic has cancelled planned winter services from Liège Airport to Tenerife South and Gran Canaria before the routes began, leaving the Belgian airport without scheduled passenger flights again. The airline had intended to restore regular leisure traffic from the cargo-focused airport at the end of October, but weak bookings prompted a cut in frequencies before the programme was dropped entirely.
The original plan called for two weekly flights to each Canary Islands destination, with Tenerife South due to start on 27 October and Gran Canaria on 29 October. Those services would have returned passenger operations to Liège after the earlier exit of TUI fly, but the cancellation means the airport remains focused on freight rather than commercial travel for now.
The route changes underline how quickly leisure network plans can unravel when demand disappoints. Reporting also quoted airport management as saying the decision leaves Liège “again with nothing”, after hopes of rebuilding a small scheduled passenger offer over the winter season.
