Aero Norway signs LEAP MRO offload deal with GE Aerospace

Aero Norway has signed a multi-year offload agreement with GE Aerospace covering high-pressure turbine work on CFM LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines, extending the Stavanger-based MRO provider into the LEAP programme for the first time. The arrangement gives Aero Norway responsibility for HPT rotor repairs and HPT stage 2 nozzle assemblies within GE Aerospace’s open MRO ecosystem.

The deal expands Aero Norway beyond its core CFM56 business and gives the ITP Aero company a foothold in maintenance for one of the aviation industry’s fastest-growing engine families. GE Aerospace has been shifting selected LEAP repairs to qualified third-party shops as it works to relieve capacity pressure and support engine availability for operators of high-volume narrowbody fleets.

Public disclosures around the programme point to a fleet of more than 8,000 active LEAP engines and a backlog of more than 10,000 engines, underlining the scale of the maintenance challenge facing the network. GE Aerospace has been widening its external MRO base as part of that strategy, while Aero Norway described the agreement as a first-of-its-kind contract that advances its transition into LEAP engine maintenance.
