United celebrates 60 years in Mexico with new routes

United Airlines is expanding its Mexican network as it marks 60 years of operations in the country, adding a Houston–Tuxtla Gutiérrez service operated by an Embraer E175. The year-round route is scheduled to begin on 28 October with three weekly flights, making United the only US airline offering nonstop service between the United States and Chiapas and taking the carrier’s Mexican network to 25 cities.

The United Express service will be operated by SkyWest Airlines from Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Flights are scheduled on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, although operating times remain subject to change.

United is also introducing a service between San José del Cabo and Washington Dulles during October. For spring 2027, the airline expects to restore or launch a daily, year-round connection between Chihuahua and Houston, pending government approval.

Mexico is United’s largest international market by flight volume, with more than 550 weekly services linking 25 Mexican destinations with the United States and the carrier’s wider network. Cancún is the airline’s busiest Mexican destination, averaging 20 daily round trips in 2026 and more than 30 during peak demand periods.

United’s first Mexican flight, between Houston and Monterrey, operated on 15 December 1966. Since 2024, the airline has added Puerto Escondido, Tepic and Tuxtla Gutiérrez while continuing to build its presence in Mexico City and Monterrey. Houston provides onward connections to domestic, European and Asian destinations.
