MTU Maintenance has begun construction of a more than 10,000-square-metre extension at its Hannover, Germany, engine-maintenance facility. The investment of more than €100 million will increase site capacity by over 20% and support additional wide-body engine shop visits and module repairs, including work on GE Aerospace’s GEnx and, in future, GE9X turbine centre frames. The facility is scheduled to become operational in late 2028.
The project will add 7,700 square metres of production space and 2,200 square metres of offices, taking the site’s total floor area beyond 110,000 square metres. Around 200 new jobs are expected to be created. The investment is partly supported by Wirtschaftsförderungs-Gesellschaft Langenhagen Flughafen mbH.
Capacity released within the existing facility will be reorganised and optimised for key engine repairs. The expansion forms part of MTU Aero Engines’ wider investment in its maintenance, repair and overhaul network as demand grows for wide-body engine support. MTU Aero Engines chief executive Johannes Bussmann described the programme as part of efforts to meet international demand for aero-engine technology and MRO services.
