Verdi rejects Discover Airlines pension proposal as inadequate

Verdi is continuing negotiations with Discover Airlines over an occupational pension scheme for cockpit and cabin crew after rejecting the Lufthansa subsidiary’s initial proposal as inadequate. The union is seeking improvements before talks resume shortly, arguing that the proposed arrangement differs substantially from other Lufthansa Group pension models in both financial scope and structure.

The negotiations cover Discover’s flying personnel, but the available information does not specify the proposed contribution rate, eligibility conditions, number of affected employees or location of the talks. Verdi negotiator Marvin Reschinsky characterised the offer as materially different from comparable arrangements elsewhere in the group.

The dispute follows a separate agreement between Verdi and Lufthansa Group carrier City Airlines covering about 660 cockpit and cabin employees. That scheme provides an employer-funded pension contribution equal to 5% of individual income, with employees able to choose a corresponding payment as salary instead. The City Airlines agreement provides a comparison point for the group’s pension arrangements, but does not determine the terms under negotiation at Discover.
