Aena has launched a €41.7 million tender for three infrastructure projects at Valencia Airport, centred on the comprehensive renewal of runway 12-30. The 27-month programme, scheduled from May 2027 to July 2029, also covers taxiway upgrades and improvements to the airport’s perimeter road, with major runway works expected to require coordinated overnight closures.
The runway project includes pavement and shoulder renewal or rehabilitation, slope correction, grading, drainage and conduit upgrades, and replacement of runway lighting and PAPI approach-light systems with LED technology. The works will affect infrastructure used by arriving and departing aircraft and are intended to modernise the airfield’s operating systems.
Several taxiways will undergo configuration changes, while markings and aeronautical signs will be renewed and electrical installations supporting airfield lighting reinforced. The perimeter-road works comprise rehabilitation, resurfacing and construction of new sections to improve safety, operational reliability and maintenance access.
The most disruptive phases are expected to involve runway closures generally between 22:00 and 06:00. Aena plans to coordinate the restrictions with airlines and airport service companies, providing sufficient notice for operational adjustments, including possible use of alternative airports. The contract remains at the tender stage, and no detailed closure schedule or contractor has been identified.
