Air Canada is expanding its winter 2026-27 sun network with new or expanded service to Tenerife, Roatán, Santo Domingo, Mérida and Mazatlán, alongside additional seasonal flying from several Canadian gateways. The schedule includes the only nonstop links between North America and Tenerife, operated with Airbus A321XLR aircraft, while a new Ipsos survey indicates that many Canadian travellers are seeking relaxation and unfamiliar destinations.
The Tenerife services will connect Toronto and Montréal with Spain’s Canary Islands. Roatán will be served from Toronto and Montréal, Santo Domingo from Montréal, Mérida from Toronto and Mazatlán from Vancouver. Additional seasonal routes will link Canadian cities with destinations including Quito, Aruba, Monterrey, Liberia, Puerto Escondido, Cancún, Puerto Vallarta, Montego Bay, Punta Cana, Pointe-à-Pitre and Bridgetown.
The network spans Montréal, Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Québec City and Halifax. It also retains established leisure markets while providing access to longer-haul destinations such as Rio de Janeiro, Lima, Bangkok, Manila, Sydney and Buenos Aires.
Ipsos surveyed 2,001 Canadian adults between 8 and 11 September, including 1,101 fall and winter travellers who completed the travel questions. Relaxation and recharging were important destination-selection factors for 72%, while 55% said they still had many winter destinations to explore. Hawaii led potential future winter escapes at 49%, followed by Costa Rica at 47% and Australia at 41%.
