Norwegian has begun formal consultations over the possible reduction of up to 125 positions at its Copenhagen Airport base, comprising 55 pilots and 70 cabin crew. The airline plans to reduce the number of aircraft based in Copenhagen from 16 to 14 for the summer schedule, while maintaining planned departures by operating some services with aircraft and crews based in Spain.
The adjustment reflects the sharp seasonal difference in demand at Copenhagen, where Norwegian requires about 16 aircraft during the summer peak but only around 10 in winter. The airline also faces stronger competition from SAS, higher fuel costs and continued geopolitical uncertainty.
Norwegian employs approximately 230 pilots and 400 cabin crew at its Danish base, meaning the potential reduction could affect about one in five employees. The proposed cuts are not final, as negotiations are continuing and alternative measures are being considered.
Possible options include greater workforce flexibility, winter leave, seasonal contracts and transfers of cabin crew to another base, including Oslo. The company is also examining ways to limit or avoid redundancies while shifting part of the Copenhagen operation to Spain, where crew costs are lower.
