Lufthansa will launch a nonstop route between Frankfurt and Columbus, Ohio, on 5 May 2027, giving John Glenn Columbus International Airport its first scheduled intercontinental connection. The service will operate three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays using a 287-seat Boeing 787-9 fitted with Lufthansa’s Allegris cabin. Bookings are due to open on 20 October 2026.
The aircraft will provide 28 business-class seats, 28 premium-economy seats and 231 economy seats. Frankfurt will serve as the European hub for passengers travelling to and from the Ohio capital, as well as for onward connections across Lufthansa’s network.
Lufthansa describes the route as the first and only nonstop European link to the economically important region around Columbus. The service forms part of Lufthansa Group’s Summer 2027 schedule, which includes ten new intercontinental routes and additional frequency increases.
Ohio is supporting international air-service development through the JobsOhio Air Service Restoration programme, which uses revenue guarantees to reduce the commercial risk of launching routes. JobsOhio and local partners have committed a combined USD 46.9 million to the broader programme since 2020. It has supported 32 new routes and 15 service expansions, with an estimated annual economic impact of about USD 230 million. The amount allocated specifically to Lufthansa has not been disclosed.
