Air China temporarily removes Boeing 747 from several domestic routes

Air China has temporarily removed scheduled Boeing 747 operations from several domestic routes during the first part of the Northern Winter 2026/27 timetable. The changes affect services from Beijing Capital to Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shanghai Hongqiao, reducing scheduled domestic access to the carrier’s remaining passenger 747 aircraft while the type continues to serve international destinations.

Boeing 747-400 operations are removed from the Beijing–Guangzhou schedule from 28 October to 2 January and from Beijing–Shenzhen between 25 October and 31 December. On the Beijing–Shanghai Hongqiao route, the schedule excludes the 747-8I from 25 October to 31 December and the 747-400 from 25 October to 20 January.

The changes concern filed schedules rather than a permanent fleet-retirement decision. Individual flights with either 747 variant may still operate on selected dates, and further timetable revisions remain possible.

Air China continues to schedule the 747-8I on international routes during the winter season, including Beijing–Frankfurt three times weekly, Beijing–New York five times weekly and Beijing–Washington Dulles twice weekly. Frankfurt is initially planned at one weekly service between 25 October and 8 November. The available schedule information does not identify an operational reason for the temporary domestic reductions.
