ER GMLRS Advances Towards Operational Fielding and Expanded Production

Lockheed Martin is advancing its Extended-Range Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (ER GMLRS) towards production and operational fielding after two successful US Army soldier-led tests at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. The weapon is designed to reach up to 150 kilometres and remain compatible with existing HIMARS and M270 launchers, providing extended precision-fire capability without a new launcher system.

The Alternative Warhead and Unitary Warhead variants completed operational testing after flights in September and October. Soldiers conducted multiple successive firings from an M270A2 launcher, demonstrating the system within the established launcher ecosystem.

The Army’s Milestone C approval clears ER GMLRS to move from development and testing into production and deployment. Lockheed Martin is shifting programme activity towards manufacturing at scale while expanding production capacity and strengthening supply chains for precision munitions. ER GMLRS forms part of the company’s precision-fires portfolio alongside standard GMLRS, the Army Tactical Missile System and the Precision Strike Missile.

The company has not disclosed production quantities, delivery schedules or a specific operational fielding date. The system is intended for US and allied operators.
