Indra Group USA’s 118,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Olathe, Kansas, is fully operational and producing next-generation radars and NEXCOM VHF/UHF air-to-ground digital radios for Federal Aviation Administration programmes. The $50 million plant will also manufacture more than 1,500 ADS-B radios and portable MP-TACAN systems for the US Air Force, expanding domestic capacity for aviation and defence equipment.
The production milestone was highlighted during a visit by US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Senator Roger Marshall, FAA Chief Operating Officer Frank McIntosh and Olathe Mayor John Bacon. The facility forms part of Indra’s response to major US air-traffic-modernisation requirements, including an FAA contract for up to 46,000 radios and a programme covering 185 primary and secondary radars.
Indra and RTX are contracted to install up to 612 radars by June 2028. Indra’s initial share includes the 185 radar systems, intended to replace ageing air-traffic-control infrastructure. The company’s US teams have already delivered more than 3,500 radios, commissioned seven radar sites and deployed Surface Awareness Initiative systems at 12 airports.
Opened with a ribbon-cutting in April, the Olathe operation serves as an Indra US centre of excellence and complements the company’s nearby 40,000-square-foot facility in Overland Park, Kansas.
