Iran’s Atlas Air resumes Tehran–Minsk flights despite US sanctions

Iranian carrier Atlas Air operated two further flights between Tehran and Minsk in late September and early October, using a Boeing 737-400 despite the airline having been targeted by US sanctions. The aircraft, registered EP-SAU, arrived in Minsk on 29 September and 2 October on flights IRH6446 and IRH6447, respectively. The services were reported on 14 October and do not establish a permanently resumed scheduled route.

The flights coincided with Innoprom Belarus 2026, an industrial exhibition held in Minsk from 30 September to 2 October that attracted a sizeable Iranian delegation. Atlas Air had previously operated the route on four consecutive Sundays in September with a McDonnell Douglas MD-87 before stopping the service without an official explanation and removing Minsk from its website.

The suspension followed the imposition of US sanctions on Atlas Air, although no official link between the sanctions and the route’s withdrawal has been confirmed. There has also been no public explanation for the later flights from Atlas Air or the Iranian and Belarusian aviation authorities.

Separately, Iran and Belarus have been pursuing expanded tourism cooperation. Direct Tehran–Minsk flights are expected to begin after the required Belarusian approvals, but that plan does not independently confirm a regular Atlas Air schedule or establish that the September and October services formed a continuing route.
