Avolon orders 70 Trent 7000 engines for 35 Airbus A330-900s

Aircraft lessor Avolon has ordered 70 Trent 7000 engines from Rolls-Royce to power 35 Airbus A330-900 widebody aircraft. The engine order follows Avolon’s firm agreement with Airbus for the A330-900s and 75 A320neo-family aircraft, with options for a further 100 aircraft.

The Trent 7000 is the exclusive engine for the A330neo, with two engines allocated to each aircraft. The latest transaction increases Avolon’s firm A330-900 orders to 114 aircraft and its A320-family order book to approximately 650 aircraft. The Airbus agreement remains subject to approval by Bohai Leasing, Avolon’s 70% shareholder, which is expected before the end of October.

Rolls-Royce described Avolon as a longstanding customer for the A330neo and Trent 7000 combination, which supports the lessor’s plans to provide aircraft for airline fleet renewal and growth over the coming decade. No delivery schedule was disclosed.

The A330neo powered by the Trent 7000 offers 14% lower fuel burn per seat than the previous generation, according to Rolls-Royce. The engine is certified for operation with a 50% sustainable aviation fuel blend and has demonstrated compatibility with blends of up to 100% for future use.
