Brussels Airport faces about 140 cancellations as Alyzia staff join strike

Brussels Airport is set to see around 140 flight cancellations on Friday as ground-handling staff at Alyzia join a nationwide strike and demonstration in Belgium. Brussels Airlines is the most affected carrier and is cancelling about 40% of its Friday schedule, with roughly 30,000 passengers potentially affected.

The disruption is concentrated on flights handled by Alyzia, while services handled by Aviapartner are not expected to be affected. Brussels Airport has indicated that only about half of the flights handled by Alyzia are expected to operate as planned, leaving cancellations spread across several airlines using that handler.

The action forms part of a union protest against Belgian federal government measures and planned budget cuts. The airport’s latest operational guidance shows the impact is active on the day and remains subject to schedule changes as airlines update cancellations through the day.
