Brussels Airport expects around 140 flight cancellations on Friday

Brussels Airport expects about 140 flights to be cancelled on Friday, 9 October, after ground-handling staff at Alyzia prepare to join a national protest in Belgium. The disruption is set to affect flights at the airport in Zaventem, with only around half of Alyzia-handled services likely to operate as planned.

Brussels Airlines expects to cancel roughly 40% of its flights on the day, and affected passengers will be contacted directly with rebooking options or refunds. Flights handled by Aviapartner are not expected to be disrupted, including services such as TUI fly and Ryanair. The airport also sees no current impact on security screening and no confirmed disruption at Charleroi for the same date.

The cancellations are tied to nationwide union action against federal government measures rather than to weather or a technical problem. Brussels Airport’s operations will therefore depend heavily on the staffing available at Alyzia, which handles services for 21 airlines serving the hub.

The disruption is likely to affect both arrivals and departures across a broad network, forcing airlines to adjust schedules on short notice. Airlines using Alyzia are expected to contact passengers directly as flight status changes are registered.
