Suspected puma sighting near Munich Airport triggers local warning

Erding district authorities have warned the public after a suspected big cat, possibly a puma, was sighted in Notzinger Moos in Oberding, only a few kilometres from Munich Airport. Officials urged caution in the area, telling residents to keep dogs on leads and supervise small children outdoors while reports of any further sightings are passed to police in Erding.

The incident was treated as a precautionary safety issue because of its location near one of Germany’s busiest aviation hubs. A photograph of the animal exists, but it has not been released publicly, and the animal has not yet been definitively identified. Authorities also had no confirmed information on where it came from and no verified link to a circus in the region.

The warning places extra emphasis on local awareness around the airport perimeter, where nearby open land and settlements can quickly create operational concern if wildlife is reported. Police in Erding were informed of the sighting, but no broader search operation had been confirmed in the available report.
