A Cessna Citation I/SP crashed in mountainous terrain in western Mexico after departing Tepic for Aguascalientes on 4 October, with rescuers later finding the wreckage near Los Mezquites in Ixtlán del Río, Nayarit. The aircraft, identified as XB-BAR, was carrying two pilots who were reported killed in the accident.
The jet took off from Tepic’s Amado Nervo International Airport at about 16:30 local time and lost tracking roughly 18 minutes later, triggering a search-and-rescue response in rugged terrain that slowed access to the site. Local media and emergency crews reported the crash after the wreckage was located the following day.
The cause has not been established. Early accounts referred to smoke or flames near the impact area, but that detail remains unconfirmed, and Mexican aviation and transport authorities are expected to examine the flight path, wreckage and operational sequence. The accident adds to scrutiny of recovery and investigation procedures in difficult mountain terrain, where access for responders is limited and initial casualty confirmation can be delayed.
