Covenant opens Leipzig site for Anthem missile production

Covenant has opened its first European production facility in Leipzig, Saxony, where it plans to build the long-range Anthem cruise missile. The site in northern Leipzig near the airport occupies an existing industrial hall of more than 10,000 square metres, with initial output due from 2027 and a first-year target of 1,000 missiles before rising to 5,000 in 2028.

The German site is set to become Covenant’s largest production location worldwide and a supply hub for European customers. Local reports said the facility initially will employ around 50 people, with several hundred jobs expected over time. Full production still depends on approval to convert the warehouse into a manufacturing site, although the formal change is expected to be straightforward.

Saxony minister-president Michael Kretschmer welcomed the project, underscoring the industrial and political significance of the investment. The Leipzig opening gives the US defence company a manufacturing base in Germany as it builds out a regional production network for the European market.
