The U.S. Coast Guard has found a debris field off Nantucket linked to a missing Gulfstream G100 air ambulance carrying six people from Bermuda to Boston. Search crews continued operations through the night as the cutter William Sparling and other assets covered a wide area off the Massachusetts coast.
Contact with the medical transport aircraft was lost early on 3 October after departure from Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport. The jet was operated by Latitude Air Ambulance and was carrying four Canadian nationals and two Bermudian nationals, with next of kin notified as the search progressed.
Flight-tracking data reported by several outlets indicated the aircraft dropped sharply before it disappeared from radar, a detail that may prove important in the investigation. The debris field was confirmed by the Coast Guard after a large-scale search effort spanning roughly 1,644 square miles over about 27 hours.
The operation remained focused south of Nantucket, where air and surface crews searched in challenging overnight conditions. Authorities have not yet released any conclusion on what caused the loss of contact or the sequence of events leading to the aircraft’s disappearance.
