Riyadh Air unveils first production 787-9 in indigo livery

Riyadh Air has publicly revealed its first production Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner in indigo livery after the aircraft emerged from Boeing’s paint facility in Charleston, South Carolina. The jet, registered HZ-RXAK, is expected to be delivered soon before joining the airline’s growing network.

The livery combines indigo and lavender tones inspired by desert spring flowers, Arabic calligraphy and the carrier’s brand identity. Chief executive Tony Douglas described the aircraft’s exit from the paint shop as a proud milestone for the airline.

The scheme is intended to recur across the fleet, with one aircraft in every ten planned to wear the indigo design rather than it serving as a one-off special livery. Riyadh Air has also highlighted the pace of its expansion, saying its fleet has reached 10 aircraft and its network 15 destinations in less than four months.

The aircraft has already been painted and shown publicly, but final delivery and entry into service have not yet been confirmed. The 787-9 will become part of Riyadh Air’s wider long-haul rollout as the Saudi startup continues building its fleet and route network.
