Bundeswehr to train Eurofighter dispersal operations at Nuremberg Airport

The German Air Force will deploy four unarmed Eurofighters to Nuremberg Airport from Monday to Friday for a five-day “Dispersed Operations” exercise. The planned training is designed to test how military aircraft can operate from civilian infrastructure in a defence scenario while regular passenger services continue with minimal disruption.

The exercise involves 74 take-offs and landings and will also focus on coordination with civilian partners, including the airport fire service and air traffic operations. Nuremberg already serves as an alternate location for the Luftwaffe’s Neuburg an der Donau unit, and the airport is Bavaria’s second-largest after Munich.

Airport and military planners have structured the flying programme to limit disturbance for the public. Departures and arrivals are not scheduled for the early morning or evening, and the aircraft are expected to be most visible during take-offs and landings. The training sits within the wider effort to improve dispersal procedures and strengthen the use of civilian airports for military operations when required.
