Blackstone has launched Falcata, a defence technology company formed by combining Technology Service Corp. and Applied Systems Engineering, to build systems for missile defence and next-generation interceptors. The new platform will focus on sensing, guidance, navigation, control, radar and GPS-denied navigation for affordable defences against drones, missiles and other aerial threats.
Falcata brings together two businesses with long records in national security programmes and customer relationships, while Blackstone plans to back the platform with investment in engineering, manufacturing capacity and talent. The company is led by chief executive Brandon Wolfson, with Jonathan Moneymaker as chairman.
Blackstone did not disclose financial terms in its own announcement, but separate coverage put the firm’s commitment at more than $1 billion in debt and equity to complete the acquisitions. The platform is also expected to look at additional acquisitions over time as it seeks to expand the industrial base for interceptor technologies. The combined business includes technologies across seekers, radar, guidance electronics, control actuation systems, launchers and related systems used in national security missions.
