KLM takes delivery of first Airbus A350-900

KLM has taken delivery of its first Airbus A350-900, PH-ZNA, named De Nachtwacht, after the aircraft arrived at Amsterdam Schiphol following handover in Toulouse. The new widebody is the first of its type for the airline and will enter passenger service in the coming weeks on Toronto, as KLM begins the next phase of its intercontinental fleet renewal.

The aircraft is part of the Air France-KLM group’s wider A350 order and is intended to replace older long-haul types over time. KLM has outlined a route plan that will later expand to Montreal, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam, Nairobi and Zanzibar, with the A350 taking over duties on some of the airline’s North America and Africa services.

The introduction of the type gives KLM a newer long-haul platform as it updates its widebody fleet. The A350 is expected to support lower fuel burn, reduced noise and improved cabin comfort compared with the aircraft it will gradually displace, while also adding flexibility to KLM’s intercontinental network planning.
