Indra acquires Dares Technology to expand radar and drone capabilities

Indra Group has acquired all of Barcelona-based Dares Technology, moving to strengthen its radar, unmanned systems and defence and space technology portfolio. The company will integrate Dares’ compact high-performance radar and synthetic aperture radar processing software into its Tarsis drone family, with the technology targeted at military applications.

The transaction brings 27 Dares specialists into Indra’s Radar Centre of Excellence and extends the Spanish group into the synthetic aperture radar market, where it sees limited competition at the highest sophistication levels. Dares, founded in 2015 in Castelldefels near Barcelona, emerged from an ESA BIC incubation programme and built expertise in SAR image processing as well as its own radar development.

Indra’s plan is to adapt the sensor for defence requirements and use it to support its wider push into modernised unmanned systems. The acquisition fits into the group’s broader strategy across Weapons & Ammunition and defence electronics, while also preserving potential civil applications for the technology in sectors such as infrastructure and mining. The value of the deal has not been disclosed.
