Corendon Airlines’ Boeing 737 MAX 8 was grounded at Friedrichshafen Airport on Wednesday evening after colliding with a stationary airport fire truck while taxiing for a flight to Antalya. The aircraft, operating as XC 185 with 189 passengers and crew on board, suffered significant damage to its left wingtip, but no one was injured.
The collision disrupted departure plans for the leisure service and forced passengers to disembark while a replacement aircraft was arranged. The substitute flight left about five hours late after an exception to the airport’s night-flight ban. Police estimated the damage at around 300,000 euros, covering both the aircraft and the fire vehicle.
The exact sequence of events remains unclear, and available reports do not fully establish how the aircraft and fire truck came into contact. For now, the incident appears limited to ground operations, but it raises questions over ramp and taxiway coordination at the airport. The damaged Boeing was unable to continue its scheduled service, underscoring the operational disruption for an international holiday flight bound for Turkey.
