A Corendon Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 struck a Friedrichshafen airport fire brigade vehicle on the way to the runway, damaging the aircraft’s left wingtip and delaying flight XC 185 to Antalya for several hours. No one was injured, and an replacement aircraft was later arranged to carry the 189 passengers onward from Bodensee-Airport in southern Germany.
The incident unfolded as the aircraft began rolling toward takeoff on Wednesday evening, prompting the flight to stop and return to the apron. The exact sequence of events remained unclear in early reporting, although the collision involved the left winglet and a stationary fire brigade vehicle near the taxi route. Pictures from the scene showed visible damage to the wingtip area.
The disruption had an immediate operational impact at the regional airport, where the affected passengers waited for a substitute aircraft. The journey to Antalya resumed several hours late, after the replacement jet reached Friedrichshafen and the flight received an exemption to depart after nightfall. Early estimates put the damage at around €300,000, covering the aircraft and the fire brigade vehicle.
