Safran to double U.S. turbojet capacity in Texas for missiles and drones

Safran Power Units will double turbojet engine production capacity at its Grand Prairie, Texas site by 2028 as it expands U.S. manufacturing for missiles and drones. The move includes a new assembly line for TR40 engines used in the Naval Strike Missile, strengthening the French group’s footprint in a defence segment where demand for small turbojet propulsion is rising.

The Grand Prairie facility already supports Safran’s U.S. operations and will take on a larger role as output increases to meet higher demand from military customers. The TR40 line is the most specific addition in the plan, tying the site more directly to the Naval Strike Missile programme rather than only broadening general engine production.

Safran’s decision also reflects a wider push to localise defence-related propulsion work in the United States. The company has positioned its Texas operations as part of a broader industrial base spanning military aircraft support, target drones and missile propulsion. By expanding in Grand Prairie, Safran is aligning capacity with programmes that require secure, repeatable production of compact turbojet engines.
