Pakistan Navy Locates K2 Airways Cargo Plane Black Box at 3,200 Metres

Pakistan’s Navy has located the flight recorder from K2 Airways flight KTA1732, a Boeing 737-400 freighter that crashed into the Arabian Sea in July, at a depth of about 3,200 metres. The aircraft, registered AP-BOI and operating from Sharjah to Karachi, went missing from radar after the crew reported a navigation-system problem.

The latest development confirms the underwater position of the recorder, but not whether it has been brought to the surface. The location has been passed to the Bureau of Air Safety Investigation, which is expected to use any recovered data in the inquiry into the accident.

Search teams had been working for around two months to trace the wreckage and recorder, using specialist equipment provided through Pakistan’s National Engineering and Scientific Commission. The crash site lies south of Ormara, where wreckage was found after the aircraft disappeared on 7 July.

A deep-sea recovery effort of this kind could be critical to reconstructing the final minutes of the flight and the sequence of events that led to the crash. Recovery status remains uncertain, and the investigative value will depend on whether the device can be retrieved intact from the seabed.
